Randomness is just us, so we hopped into our Vellfire and headed over to Pengkalan, Station 18. Upon reaching our sister property, we realised how time flew as realised that M Boutique Station 18 is marching onwards to it’s 3rd Birthday this year. Inspired by jazz and is 5 minutes walking distance to the Aeon Mall Station 18, this is a place whereby plenty of shopaholics love to stay because of the short distance to the mall.
During the pleasant drive, we accidentally spotted this restaurant, packed with people sitting, and as we are consistently hungry, decided to give it a try – Restoran Hoong Pan Mee. More importantly, this venue was also within walking distance to M Boutique Station 18, about 10-15 minutes by our estimates. Since it’s our first time here and we just ordered one of almost everything to try.
The orders included Dry Spicy Pan Mee, Spicy Soup Pan Mee, Pork Ball Pan Mee, and Tom Yum Pan Mee. As mentioned by their staff, they are famous with Dry Spicy Pan Mee which comes with a runny soft-poached egg, dried anchovies, minced meat, sliced brown fungus all topped with a generous dollop of their house special – dried chilli flakes. Spicy Soup Pan Mee’s broth is made of a type of paste called “Ma La” or according to our own English Translation; Super Spicy Numbness. We believe the concoction of this paste to contain Sichuan Peppercorns, Chilli Flakes and various secret spices all simmered in oil which results in the Danger Red colour. Those who loves spicy food (like our Papa) will love the soup base as it is really numbing and seriously HOT!!! (Remark by Papa : Ha ha ha, you guys can’t even eat a bite of birds eye chilli!) Our Tom Yum Pan Mee, wafts under our noses, it’s aromatic spices draws us away from the Spicy Soup Noodle …… the aroma made us salivate before even taking a taste of the soup. Their tom yum soup is just nice, it is not too spicy nor it is not spicy at all, a balance of both worlds. They also have a large selection of sweet/salty savouries that accompany your bowl of Pan Mee, in case you are the type of person where one bowl of noodle is insufficient, and as such we ordered Fried Dumpling and Fried Beancurd Skin. Overall, the meal was satisfying except for the fact that we all are too full as their portion is rather big, to begin with. Warning to those small eaters, you might want to consider sharing it with a friend. As for the price, it is considered average about RM6.00 per bowl which is quite reasonable and what really surprises us is their snacks are actually quite cheap as both of the Fried Dumpling and Fried Bean Curd Skin is only RM3.50 per plate which consists of 4 pieces per plate whereby their Pork Ball is at RM2.00 which consists of 5 pieces in the bowl. We spent about RM46.20, which is considered average about RM12.00 per person including drinks.
